How To Remove ATV Wheel Bearings
ATV wheel bearings are attaches to the rotor of the ATV and allow the wheels to spin freely. Everyday wear and tear can cause the bearing to become damaged and malfunction. When this happens, the old wheel bearings need to be removed from the rotors and new bearings will need to be installed in their place.
Step 1: Drive the ATV to a flat surface. Use a jack to lift the ATV up off the ground. Place a jack stand under the lifted ATV to help support the weight and protect both you and the ATV in case the jack slips out from under it.
Step 2: Locate the nuts that attach the wheel to the wheel studs. Use a socket wrench to remove the nuts. Once the nuts have been removed, use your hands to pull the wheel free from the rotor.
Step 3: Remove the center cap from the ATV wheel. You may need to use a flat screwdriver or a crowbar to pry it loose. Be careful not to break the center cap or scratch the wheel and tire. Not all ATV wheels will have center caps.
Step 4: Use a socket to remove the spindle nut. Pull the rotor off the spindle.
Step 5: Use a screwdriver to remove the bearing racers from each side of the rotor. Once the racers are removed, use the screwdriver to remove the bearings. There will be a bearing and baring racer on each side of the rotor.
Step 6: Once the bearings have been removed, you can install new ones. You will need to lubricate the inside of the rotor with grease before installing the new wheel bearings.
