How To Remove Auto Pinstriping

If you are tired of looking at the old pinstriping on your car there are some things you could do to get it removed. You could take it to a professional detail shop and they will do it for you for a fee. The cheapest way to remove it would be to do it yourself. It is fairly simple to do and you could have it off within minutes.

How to Remove Auto Pinstriping

  1. Use a hair dryer on the hot setting to heat the stripe. Do not overheat the paint of the car because you do not want it to chip. Only hold it there long enough to heat the pinstripe.

  2. Begin taking the stripe off slowly from one of the ends. It should be pulled off at a 90-degree angle.

  3. Use your fingernails or a plastic putty knife and continue to pull off the pinstriping while still applying heat to the area. Do not scrap if it is not coming off easily because you do not want to scratch the paint. Just apply more heat to the area and pull it again. If the pinstriping has been on the car for a while it may be more difficult to remove. In this case, you would need to apply some WD-40 on the stripes and allow it to set for approximately 15 minutes and then try to remove the stripe again.

  4. Use a lubricant such as WD-40 or a multi-purpose cleaner on a nylon scrubbing pad to remove any remaining adhesive on the car.

  5. Use a mild detergent and wash the car thoroughly.
