How To Remove Dry Wax Off a Car

Regularly waxing a car will keep it shining for years. Vehicles that are waxed and cleaned consistently have a higher trade in or resale value; if waxed approximately twice a year it can protect from harmful sun rays and debris. Wax should be applied by hand or a low speed buffer after washing and drying the car.

  1. Purchase a few microfiber towels to remove the wax. These towels are very soft and will almost eliminate the chance of scratching your car. They should easily be found in most home improvement and car care stores.

  2. Remove the wax in the same order you applied it. It's important to let the wax sit for equal amounts of time as possible. Remove by rubbing the wax off in a circular motion, similar to how it should be applied.

  3. Some wax might be tough to remove and you may have to use a little force when rubbing it off. Use another side of the towel when wax builds up, and new towels when wax completely builds up. You shouldn't have to use more than two or three towels if you fold them a few times and use every side.

  4. Apply and remove wax in a shaded spot if possible. Wax will dry out quickly in the sunlight.

  5. Check your work in the sunlight to see if you missed removing any wax. You can see mistakes in the sunlight easier.

Some people use a buffer to remove the wax by wrapping a towel around it. This will remove large spots of wax quickly, but removing wax by hand is the most precise.
