How To Remove Rust and Corrosion From Car Tire Rims

Rust on auto tires is one of the major concerns of many car owners. The metal on the rims can easily corrode when there is rust present. The rust can make the rims weak and more prone to damage. This can make their rounds look bad an old. It may appear that the rust is difficult to remove when you simply wash your car with soap and water.

Materials Needed:

  • Large bucket

  • Hot water

  • Scrub brush

  • Rubber gloves

  • Acid based cleaner

  • Sandpaper

  • Garden hose

  • Clean cloth

  • Car polish

Instructions:

  1. Allow the rims to cool if you have driven the vehicle.

  2. Fill a large bucket with hot water. Dip a scrub brush in the hot water and scrub the rims. This gets the rims ready for the cleaning process.

  3. Wear rubber gloves to protect your hands from the cleaner. Use a scrub brush to apply and acid based cleaner over the rim. Apply pressure as you clean rim.

  4. Use sandpaper to remove any rust that the acid based cleaner did not remove.

  5. Rinse the room with a garden hose. Use a clean cloth to apply car polish to the tire rim. The car polish keeps the tire rim from rusting and corroding.
