How To Reset Factory Keyless Entry
Many of the newer model cars come with a keyless entry, also known as a remote control keychain. This remote allows you, as the owner, to lock the car, unlock the car, set off your car alarm and even open your trunk from a distance. A common issue remote key users come across is that they forget the code and need to reset their key.
Things You Need:
- Keyless Entry Remote
- Owner's Manual (Original)
- Note card or Post-It note
- Once you have the original owner’s manual for your vehicle, the number is generally located on the first or last page or the card that you can cut out and place in your wallet.
- On many vehicles, generally cars more than SUVs or trucks, the number you need is on a sticker, located on the entry into the trunk or near the latch on the door.
- In many vehicles, the number is also located near or on the vehicle’s computer. Enter your vehicle and located the panel which houses the car jack. Remove this panel and locate the metal box within that panel and on the rear side of this box is the code to rest your remote.
- If your vehicle is relatively new, then contact the dealership for this information. The dealership will help you find the where the code is located or simply reset the code for you.
- Once you have received the code, write the code down on a note card or Post-It-note and place it inside the folder or envelope with your other vehicle information. Alternatively, you can place it on a card that fits inside your wallet.
