How To Tint Taillights
Some people prefer dark colored taillights because they like the look. There are some auto dealerships and customized shops that sell the lights already tinted, but they can be quite expensive. You can get the same look by applying some regular window tint, which is a lot cheaper and fairly simple to do.
How to Tint Taillights
- Use a screwdriver to remove the taillights from the car. There is an electrical plug located behind the lights, which should be removed with a flat screwdriver.
- Lay the light on a flat surface.
- Place a piece of the tint up against the taillight to measure how much tint you are going to need for the job. Be sure not to remove the backing from the tint.
- Use scissors to cut a piece tint the size of the light.
- Spray some soapy water on the taillight, making sure you soak the entire lens of the light.
- Take the backing off the tint and place it over the taillight.
- Smooth the tint out over the light using a squeegee.
- Use a utility knife to cut slits into the tint around the curves of the light and smooth out as much as possible.
- Use a blow dryer on the hot setting to heat the tint while still smoothing out.
- Pull any excess tint toward the edge of the taillight and trim with the utility knife.
- Apply some black electrical tape around the edges of the light to assist in holding it in place.
