How To Vacuum Your Pool
Vacuuming your pool is not a difficult job if you have the proper tools. It should be part of your regular pool maintenance routine. Vacuuming not only makes the pool cleaner, it also makes it healthier by removing minuscule pieces of plant debris green algae blooms can feed and grow. It is a matter of getting started with your pool vacuum.
Both in ground and aboveground units typically use the same procedure for vacuuming.
Supplies
- Vacuum Head
- Vacuum Pole
- Vacuum Hose
- Pool
- Filter Unit
- Clamps (optional)
- Attach the vacuum head and pole together. Depress the buttons on either side of the pole and snap into the vacuum head.
- Hook up one end of the hose on the vacuum head attachment. Use a clamp if necessary to hold it firmly in place.
- Drop the vacuum into the deepest end of the pool. Make sure the head sinks to the bottom with bristle side resting against the pool floor.
- Submerge the unattached hose into the pool and fill with water. This will prevent an air bubble in the hose, which can cause malfunction of the system and loss of suction.
- Put the vacuum plate on the skimmer basket inside the skimmer. Attach the unencumbered hose to fitting on the top of the skimmer.
- Turn the filter pump on.
- Grasp the pole and move it slowly in a sweeping motion on the pool floor. The slower you work the better the vacuum will clean.
- Check your filter pressure gauge when beginning. When the pressure reaches higher than 10 pressures per inch above beginning reading, switch the filter to the backwash setting. Continue the backwash operation until the water runs clear.
- Reset the pump back to the filter setting.
- Continue vacuuming until you have covered the entire bottom and sides of the pool.
- When you have finished vacuuming, unhook the vacuum from the skimmer plate. Now, remove the skimmer plate from the skimmer basket. Lift the vacuum from the pool.
- Clean your vacuum and all tools with clear water to remove any algae growth or chlorine.
- Store your equipment in a handy dry place to prevent deterioration.
