How To Wash Your ATV

An ATV can be fun and exciting to ride for everyone in the family. Constant riding can attract dirt, dust and mud to the vehicle, which must be cleaned off properly. Regular cleaning when the ATV is needed will not only make the ATV look better but all it will prolong the life of the ATV.

Materials Needed:

  • Duct tape

  • Pressure washer

  • Soap

  • High compression cleaner

  • Clean cloths

  • Silicone spray

  1. Close off the exhaust and air box with duct tape. You do not water to get into those areas because they can reach important areas and damage the vehicle.

  2. If the bike has been recently ridden out for the day, allow it to cool before washing it. There is a chance that you could pull the engine if you try to clean it while it is hot.

  3. Rinse the ATV with a pressure washer to help the cleaning move along a little faster. Make sure you do not use more than 60psi on the vehicle. If possible, connect the pressure washer to a warm water supply.

  4. Apply soap to a high compression cleaner and clean the ATV. Allow the soap to sit on the vehicle for 10 minutes.

  5. Rinse the vehicle with the pressure washer to thoroughly remove all of the soap. This is a good time to start the vehicle to make sure the engine will start. Allow the ATV to run for about three minutes.

  6. Use a clean cloth to dry the vehicle. Allow the vehicle to completely dry. You do not want to ride the ATV while it is still wet because the brake discs could still be wet and the brakes may not work.

  7. Spray a layer of silicone spray over the plastic parts. Use a clean cloth to shine the area. This spray will give the plastic a nice shine and make it easier for dirt to come off the next time you clean it. Allow the ATV to dry for another three hours.
