How to Activate BlackBerry Internet Service

BlackBerry phones have become a household name in cellular phone technology. These smart phones were some of the most advanced to hit the market when they first came out, and remain among the most popular phones on the market. One of the reasons for the popularity is the always-on Internet connection. Activating this on your BlackBerry only takes a minute.

Having a phone with Internet access anytime you want it is a big advantage. It allows you to use your phone in the same way you would use your home computer or laptop to perform basic searches and check email. Before you can use the BlackBerry Internet service you'll need to activate it.

  1. Start with your home computer or laptop with an Internet connection. You can't use the Internet on the BlackBerry until it's activated.

  2. Go to website listed in your BlackBerry manual to set up the service. Some devices will still use the https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html address. Double check to make sure this is the valid address for your specific BlackBerry device.

  3. Find the option for new accounts. You should see a hyperlink that says "Create New Account." Click on this.

  4. Enter the required information. You'll be asked to agree to the terms and conditions. Once you have agreed you'll be taken to a page that asks for your contact information. This includes your full name, phone numbers, address, etc.

  5. Find the ESN and PIN on the box for the BlackBerry. You'll have to type these numbers in on the next page to activate the service. If you no longer have the box for the phone you can find these numbers on the phone itself. If the ESN isn't listed behind the battery, then turn on the phone, find the Phone Options menu, and look at the Phone Information. It should be listed here.

  6. Confirm your activation and continue on the website. Click on the "Finish" button. Give it about 10 minutes and power your phone off and back on again. The Internet should be fully functional for your device now. If it isn't, call the customer service department for your cellular carrier and have then troubleshoot the device.
