How to Adopt Exotic Birds

Some of the prettiest birds that a pet owner can own fall into the category of exotic birds. Exotic birds can be much more expensive compared to typical birds that some people own as pets. The good news is that exotic birds can be adopted for free if you know the right places to look.

  1. Research exotic birds and know
which ones you are willing to take on as pets and which ones you
would not take on as pets. It is important to know how much care
they need and their housing requirements before you go looking for
    an exotic bird to adopt.

  2. Look in your local newspaper for
people that may be giving away their exotic birds. People may be
giving away an exotic bird for many reasons. Perhaps they can no
longer afford to take care of the bird. Maybe they tried to sell the
bird and there weren't any buyers. In any case, this is an excellent
opportunity for you to get your exotic bird for free.

  3. Place an ad in your local paper
and online stating that you are looking for an exotic bird to adopt.
You can reach more people with online advertising, but be prepared
to pay shipping costs if the person with the bird lives far away.

  4. Contact animal shelters in your
area and let them know that you are looking to adopt exotic birds.
Leave them your contact information and don't forget to call back
occasionally to check and see if they have rescued any exotic birds.

  5. Prepare you home for your new
exotic bird before it arrives. Don't way until the last minute to
get all the supplies you will need. Once you know you will be
getting your exotic bird, start to prepare your bird's new home.
