How to Adopt a Goldendoodle
The Goldendoodle may just be the perfect breed for your family. They are a designer dog that is a mix of Golden Retriever and Standard Poodle. These dogs are highly intelligent and because they are mixed with the non-shedding poodle they tend to shed less, which makes it perfect for those with allergies to dogs.
- Adopting
a Goldendoodle begins with deciding if you want a full-grown dog or
you want to start fresh with a puppy. There are advantages to both,
but in the end it is an individual choice. The Goldendoodle comes in
many different colors, which is determined by the colors that make
up the poodle's family and how that color mixes with the Golden
Retriever. - Find
breeders in your area. You can do this by using the Internet and
while on your favorite search engine type in “Goldendoodle breeder
Your City” this will bring up a list of breeders. Do not just pick
a breeder randomly, you do need to do a bit of homework and research
the breeder by speaking with them and getting some references. - Use
sites such as Petfinder,
which makes searching for breeds in your area easier. Again, you
want to know everything you can about the breeder and the puppy's
parents if you decide a puppy is the way to go. - Decide
on the split of mix you want. A Goldendoodle is a mix of the two
purebreds, but sometimes you may have breeders that breed a purebred
Golden Retriever with a Goldendoodle, making the puppies have more
Golden Retriever than poodle. While the puppies still are
Goldendoodles, the mix is different and therefore, the puppies could
take on the personality and traits of the more dominate bloodline.
