How to Apply for Business Credit

Starting a business can be expensive and typically requires that the business owner apply for a business line of credit to cover the start-up costs of the business. This type of loan is offered by numerous banks and is determined based on the applicant's credit score and business plan.

  1. Determine the current credit score that you hold to see if you have a high enough score to be eligible for a business loan. A business loan is typically based off of the credit score of the applicant.

  2. Make a business plan that is professional and detailed. Make sure that the plan goes over all financial aspects of the business in detail so that the loan representative can understand how the borrowed funds are going to be used.

  3. Contact a local bank in the area where the business is located and let them know that you would like to make an appointment to apply for a business loan. Ask them to provide you with a list of paperwork that should be brought with to the appointment.

  4. Arrive at the appointment a little early and be sure to bring all pertinent paperwork with you.

  5. Present the business plan that you have made to the loan representative. Be enthusiastic to sell the business and explain why you think that this business opportunity has the potential to be profitable in the long-term.

  6. Fill out all of the paperwork that is required to file for a business credit loan.

  7. Wait to hear back from the loan representative to determine if the application for a loan has been approved or denied.

  8. Visit the bank again to pick up the funds, or set up an account with the bank to have the funds deposited in if the loan application process was approved.
