How to Apply for Mobile Home Insurance

A mobile home, like any other home, should be insured to cover damages caused by theft, vandalism or fire.  Mobile home insurance will cover the unit and the items kept inside.  You will need to purchase a plan that insures the mobile home for its value and not what you owe on it or paid for it.  The contents are also insured according to value.  If you own a mobile home, you should apply for insurance as soon as possible.

  1. Find a reputable insurance agent by searching the listings on MerchantCircle.  If you already have an insurance company or agent for auto or life insurance, contact your current carrier to get a quote for mobile home insurance.  Many companies offer a discount for having multiple lines of insurance with the same company.

  2. Contact the insurance company by phone or by filling out an online application.  You will need to provide your name, mobile home address, phone number and email.

  3. Provide information pertaining to your mobile home such as year it was made, model number, size, amenities and any other pertinent information.

  4. Tell the representative how much your mobile home is worth.  In order to figure this amount correctly, you may want to find out how much it would cost to replace your mobile home if it were to burn to the ground today.  Do not include the contents; those are insured separately.  You will need to insure the mobile home for one amount and the contents for another amount.  To determine the amount for the contents, make a list and include a price for each item.  For instance, you might list bathroom items (which would include towels, decorations and personal hygiene products) will cost $300 to replace.

  5. Wait for a quote from the insurance company.  You may want to get quotes from several insurance companies so you can compare policies and get the mobile home policy that has the most coverage for the least amount of money.

  6. Provide proof of income, social security number and mobile home documentation to the insurance company.  They will need a record of this information for your files.  This is one of the final requirements for the mobile home application process.

  7. Pay the premium for the mobile home policy that fits your needs.  This payment will activate your policy and your mobile home will be covered in case of a fire, vandalism or theft.
