How to Appraise Used Trucks

If you have a used truck that you wish to sell, make sure that you have an appraisal value so that you can sell it at a reasonable price.  Find appraisals online and locate similar trucks being sold in your area so that you can get a good range or average of what your truck is worth.

  • Look online to find a website that offers appraisals for free.  These websites, such as the one for Kelley Blue Book, gives you up-to-date information about how much your used truck is worth.  Make sure to fill out all of the information that is asked of you correctly including the make, model and condition of your truck to receive an accurate estimate of your truck's value.

  • Look at the prices of trucks that are being sold locally to get an idea about what your used truck might be worth.  Find newpaper ads and online listings for used trucks and cars to find this information.

  • Go to a used car dealer in your area and ask to get an estimate for the value of your truck.  You will probably get a trade-in value from the dealer but this estimate will provide you with a ballpark figure or range for the value of your truck.

  • Look at a variety of car dealers near where you live to see if you can find any trucks that are similar to yours that are being sold.  Look at the prices of these trucks to get an idea of what your truck may be worth.  If you see many trucks being sold that are in a similar condition to your truck, write down all the prices so that you can review them later and come up with an average estimate that seems reasonable.

  • Locate a dealer for the make of your car and ask if they could provide you with an estimate for the value of your truck.  A dealer that specifically sells the type of vehicle that you have will be able to provide you with an estimate that is the most accurate.
