How to Arrange Flowers for Outdoor Weddings

Flowers are an important part of decorating for an outdoor wedding.  To arrange flowers appropriately make sure that you have a variety of flowers that will work well in the outdoor weather as well as containers that will not blow away or fall from outside elements.

Things You'll Need:

  • Planters

  • Variety of flowers

  • Vases or other containers

  • Rocks

  1. Choose planters that flowers will be placed in that are sturdy and secure.  White baskets are a good choice for a classic wedding style.  Make sure that you have enough planters to set up a number of arrangements.

  2. Purchase flowers to be placed in your baskets.  These flowers should be able to withstand outdoor elements for the entirety of the ceremony.  Keep the season in mind when you get your flowers.  If you are arranging flowers for a summer wedding, you will want to purchase plants that can endure the heat without wilting.

  3. Arrange flowers in containers or vases with water that will fit inside of your outdoor baskets.  Place greenery inside containers first leaving enough room for flowers.  Put the largest flowers that you have in the middle of the greenery that you have placed and then add smaller flowers around the bigger ones.  When you are done placing flowers make sure that the arrangement looks nice and flowers are separated in a pleasant looking variety.

  4. Place rocks at the bottom of your baskets and sit your containers filled with your flower arrangements inside the baskets.  Make sure that the rocks are set in a way so that your arrangements will stand up straight and not spill.

  5. Arrange your baskets in the outdoor wedding area and check flowers before the ceremony starts to make sure that flowers have not wilted and that there is an adequate amount of water in your containers to keep flowers hydrated.
