How to Arrange a Bookcase
A bookshelf is not just a location to store your books. In some cases, this organizational device is a showpiece in your home. Therefore, you need to arrange your bookcase in a way that not only appeals to the eyes, but is organized so you can find what you need.
Supply List
- Dust rag
- Wet rag
- Books
- Bookcase
- Knick knacks
- Book ends
- Dust your bookcase with a dust rag. Depending on the material of your shelves, you may want to use a gentle cleaner or you could use just water to further clean your bookshelf. Allow for the shelves to dry thoroughly or dry them yourself. If you do not dry the bookcase, the moisture from the shelves could ruin your books and other items.
- Place any knick knacks, such as candles or figurines on top of the bookcase above the first shelf. Placing a doily down first protects the finish and adds a personalized touch to your bookshelf.
- Organize the first shelf of your bookcase with books, all placed upright. Alphabetical order works best with books, because you are able to find the book you want without a problem. Use the same system throughout the entire bookcase. Make sure you place books of a series together, especially if you read the entire series at one time. You may use bookends to hold up the books or you may fill the shelf completely with books. Add knick knacks to the shelf, if desired.
- Place books on the second shelf of your bookcase. Continue with the alphabetical order you started using on the first shelf or if you opted to use a different system, further organize the bookcase using it. Use bookends or add knick knacks on the shelf if you would like.
- Continue organizing every shelf of the bookcase until you have ran out of books or space, whichever comes first.
