How to Assess Family Planning Clinics

One industry that seems to be growing globally is family planning. The United Nations Population Fund, also known as UNFPA, believes that more than 200 million women would like access to family planning methods but access is extremely limited.  No matter where these women reside, family planning is an issue of human rights.

  • You need to become familiar with human rights internationally and you also should be aware of the most affective standards for family planning issues.  The UNFPA states that clients who are involved in family-planning, should have rights that are nondiscrimination as well as confidential. They should also have access to a variety of contraceptive methods, complete family planning information, competent care and excellent communication with providers. The United Nations Population Fund does not promote abortion as a way of dealing with family-planning.

  •  You need to learn all you can about the rules, regulations and standards when it deals with family-planning clinics in your area. If you need help with this, you can consult with an attorney or if there is a Ministry of Health in your area, they can be helpful to you as well.

  •  You will need to follow the rules of international, national and local rules, policies and procedures for research with participants. There are two documentations that may be worth for you to read. The first one is" Guiding Principles for Evaluators" written by the American Evaluation Association and the second one is" Ethical Standards and Procedures for Research with Human Beings" that is written by the World Health Organization.   You want to select and utilize the most important methods that best fit in with the purpose of your assessment.
