How to Attach Fondant Flowers to Fondant Cake
Creating your very own custom cakes and decorating them with a variety of leaves and flowers can be a highly creative and deeply satisfying hobby. However, learning the ins and outs that every beginner must know in order to craft their own delicacies can be a little daunting at first.
Items Needed:
- Fondant frosted cake
- Gum arabic
- Water
- Small container
- Natural fiber paintbrush
- Fondant florals
- Royal icing
- Allow your cake to rest in the refrigerator for at least three hours after applying the fondant before working.
- Place one teaspoon of water into your small container and follow with one teaspoon of gum arabic. This mixture is used to place fondant-made decorations against a fondant-based icing. It is commonly referred to as gum glue.
- Stir a mixture of water and gum arabic with the end of your paint brush until it becomes thick and mostly clear.
- Take up one of the florals you wish to apply to the cake and use your paint brush to apply a small amount of your gum glue mixture on to its back.
- Gently place the floral element on to the surface of the cake, holding softly while the gum glue sets the item into position.
- Begin applying your gum glue to each element along the top of the cake, arranging them to your liking.
- Stop when you come to the side of the cake.
- Placing items along the sides of a cake may be done solely with gum glue, yet it sometimes comes in handy to reinforce your work with a bead of royal icing.
- Apply your gum glue as usual to the back of a fondant floral item, being sure to apply it very lightly.
- Using a number two tip, pipe a small bead of royal icing on to the back of the floral item as well.
- Place your floral item along the side of the cake to continue your decoration.
- Repeat this action as often as needed in order to complete your fondant floral design for your cake.
