How to Avoid Hair Loss

Hair loss is a serious condition suffered by many people around the world. Many factors can contribute to hair loss and it is best to consult a doctor to rule out any serious illnesses. Hair loss can be prevented by avoiding certain chemicals and hairstyles, and by eating healthy and taking proper care of your hair and body.

Stay Healthy

When the body is fighting an infection or illness, it will send any the nutrients to the major organs. Hair, teeth and fingernails are not considered major organs and therefore, do not receive any nutrients. If the hair is left without nutrients, it will die and fall out. Be sure to wash your hands with hot, soapy water on a regular basis and consider taking a daily vitamin to help keep your hair healthy.

Eat Right

Diet can have a major effect on your hair and overall health. If your body is not getting adequate nutrition it can cause your hair to fall out. Eat a diet that is rich in fruits like strawberries, apples and oranges, green vegetables like broccoli and protein. Avoid eating too much junk food.

Avoid Harsh Chemicals

Many hair dyes and perms contain harsh chemicals that can cause hair loss. It is best to avoid dyeing or perming your hair, but if you must do so, try to wait at least six weeks between each perm or dye job. Some hair dyes and perms are more gentle on the hair than others. Read the ingredients on the box or talk to a salon professional about the best types of dyes and perms.

Avoid Certain Hair Styles

Any hairstyle that pulls or stretches the hair can cause hair loss. Ponytails, braids, twists and cornrows are all examples of such hair styles. When the hair is pulled or stretched, it can come loose and fall out. Certain hair accessories like rubber bands can cause hair loss too. To avoid hair loss, try to wear hair down as much as possible or pulled up loosely.

Shampoo and Condition Regularly

Be sure to wash your hair regularly with protein-fortified shampoo and conditioner. The protein in the shampoo and conditioner will help make hair healthier and stronger. There are many shampoos and conditioners on the market that are designed to prevent hair loss.
