How to Avoid Mistakes in Kids Shoes Shopping
The size of your child's foot and his taste in shoes is constantly changing, both of which can make shoe shopping a nightmare for some parents. By being smarter about your purchases and simplifying the process of shoe shopping, you can avoid headaches and costly mistakes.
- Consider going to a specialized shoe shop where a store clerk will measure your child's foot. Kids will often say that shoes fit even when they don't, so getting an accurate measurement can help you pick the right size.
- Don't buy shoes that barely fit. Give your child a little extra toe room for feet to grow. Children outgrow shoes very quickly, so decide whether you want to buy something that fits now, or something that fits later. While children shouldn't wear shoes that are too big, allowing for a little room to grow won't hurt and will save you money in the long run.
- Take your child window shopping before making a purchase. Kids may impulsively pick out shoes that they discard as ugly later. Visit the shoe store and look through the shoe selection, making sure to ask your child which shoes he or she likes. Return to the store in a week or two to make a purchase. If your child still wants the same shoes, you can safely make the purchase.
- Don't buy shoes that are for one occasion. If your son or daughter needs shoes for a special event, try to find a pair that will work outside of that event. Shoes that double as both casual and formal are the best investments for your money.
