How to Backpack With Healthy Food

When backpacking, you need to eat healthy foods, but you won't be able to pack a lot and you don't want many heavy items either. There are many prepackaged foods that are sold in pouches and you can use sandwich bags to contain other foods, so your pack is as light as possible. Before you leave on a backpacking trip, learn how to backpack with healthy food to keep yourself going.

Supplies

  • Prepackaged Meats

  • Beef Jerky

  • Zipper Sandwich Bags

  • Nuts

  • Dehydrated Fruits

  • Granola Bars

  • Energy Bars

  • Whole Grain Cereal

  • Trail Mix

  • Peanut Butter and Crackers

  • Crush Proof Container

  • Sunflower Seeds or Pumpkin Seeds

Instructions

  • Pack meats that are sold in prepackaged pouches so they will not spoil. Tuna, chicken and salmon can be eaten right out of the pouch and beef jerky will also travel well in your backpack.

  • Carry nuts in your backpack, but take them out of the can and put them into zipper sandwich bags. Nuts are chock full of protein and are easy to eat on the trail. You can choose mixed nuts or a favorite such as almonds, pecans or peanuts.

  • Keep a supply of healthy raisins and dried fruits in your backpack. Packaged dehydrated fruits include apples, bananas and pineapples.

  • Raise your energy level by eating granola or energy bars. These handy snacks are made with oats, nuts and other nutritional ingredients that will give you a boost.

  • Place whole grain cereal into plastic baggies and eat this healthy food right out of the bag.

  • Bring along trail mix, which combines grains, nuts and fruits, for a healthy snack while backpacking.

  • Make peanut butter and cracker sandwiches and pack them in a container so they won't get crushed.

  • Purchase sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds for a tasty snack while backpacking.
