How to Determine the Size Of Motorcycle Tires

How to Balance Motorcycle Tires Accurately

It is important for a vehicle to have balanced tires, especially when the vehicle is a motorcycle.  Improperly balanced tires can be damaged quickly, not only shortening their life but also shortening the life of other suspension components as well.

Things You'll Need

  • A wheel balancer

  • Wheel weights

  • Some duct tape

  1. Put the motorcycle’s wheel onto the top part of the wheel balancer.

  2. Spin the tire.  Make sure that nothing prohibits it from spinning.  Allow the tire to spin until it stops naturally.

  3. Use a paint pen or a marker to note the highest point on your motorcycle’s wheel.

  4. Make sure that your tire is clean.  Use some duct tape to tape a piece of weight that is a few inches long to the wheel exactly where you made this mark.

  5. Turn your wheel.  Mark 90 degrees from where it started rotating at.

  6. Release the tire.  If the mark falls to the lowest point, then you need to remove the weight.  You will want to make it smaller and then reapply it.  However, if the mark returns to the highest point, then you will want to remove the weight and reapply a larger piece.  Continue doing this until the tire can be turned to any position without moving.

  7. Put the weight on your tire on the spot that you marked with the adhesive.  Place some tape over the weight in order to keep it safe.  Your motorcycle is now balanced.

  8. Do this to both tires in order to ensure that you will be able to enjoy a smooth ride.
