How to Become a Magician

How to Be a Real Magician

Kids enjoy doing card tricks, pulling a quarter from behind an ear and making their thumb disappear.  Playing with magic seems a phase most kids go through at a point in their life.  However, becoming a real magician is not child’s play.  It is a serious business and requires dedication and perseverance.

  1. Watch professional magicians in action.  They are attractive, smooth-talking, flexible professionals who can wow a crowd with the flip of a cape.

  2. Talk to professional magicians about how they began their career.  You may not be able to talk with every magician personally, but you can find out about their magical beginnings with a simple online search.

  3. Apply for a position or internship working with a professional magician.  This is a great way to learn new tricks and master traditional favorites.  If there is a local magic store nearby, try to get a job there.  This will also give you insight to becoming a magician.

  4. Integrate magic in everyday life.  Eat, breathe, sleep and dream of becoming a professional magician someday.  You might annoy your immediate family, but before long you will be wowing crowds everywhere.

  5. Present your skills at parties, social gathering and other places you can practice magic in front of a crowd.  Spending time in front of crowds is half the job.  The more you do it, the better you will become.

  6. Become a member of The International Brotherhood of Magicians or Society of American Magicians.  Both of these organizations provide valuable information to professional magician.

  7. Showcase your skills in videos.  Create fliers and business cards.  Start booking your own shows or opening for other magic acts.  Wave your want and before you know it, you will be a real magician.
