How to Be a Stage Hypnotist
Hypnosis is the act of placing an individual into a relaxed state, and then using the art of suggestion to encourage or discourage a behavior. Stage hypnotists perform their techniques in front of a live audience. Becoming a successful stage hypnotist requires hard work and practice.
- Research hypnosis techniques. Visit your public library or search online to find out different ways to hypnotize subjects. Common techniques include neuro-linguistic programming, video hypnosis, light or flash hypnosis and subliminal suggestion. For stage hypnosis, the technique with the most impact is traditional hypnosis, where the subject is brought into a relaxed state through repetition of an object or spoken phrase.
- Learn how to hypnotize people. Once you have decided on the hypnosis technique, learn the skills needed to hypnotize people. Train at a hypnosis center, or read literature offering instruction in the art of hypnosis.
- Practice your skills on willing subjects. Ask your friends and family members to allow you to hypnotize them. Continue perfecting your technique until you feel confident enough to perform in front of an audience.
- Find a venue to perform the hypnosis act on stage. Choose a smaller venue for your first show. Possible locations include recreational centers, small theaters or hotel facilities.
- Advertise the hypnosis event. Pass out fliers, and consider placing an advertisement in the newspaper.
- Know your stage routine ahead of time. Practice each step of the routine, including the introduction and hand gestures. Remember to incorporate times for audience participation into the routine as well.
