How to Become Known to Auto Insurance Companies

Being well known can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on the circumstances.  In the case of auto insurance companies, it is best not to be known.  Most insurance companies would prefer that customers pay their premiums on time, avoid accidents and tickets while managing their policies online.  Completing these actions will result in good rates and being known as a good customer.

Being known for the following actions is not always positive:

  • Insurance companies notice when the computer prints out late notices or overdue bills.  If they are not getting their money on time, a customer will become known in a negative way.

  • Insurance companies run random MVR (Motor Vehicle Reports).  It is possible that you will get a ticket or an accident and the insurance company will not find out until your policy renews or until they run a MVR.  Being known as a good customer may prevent the insurance company from running a MVR at the time of your renewal; however, understand that the company can run a check at any time.

  • Clients who get multiple tickets and accidents within a three-year period are definitely noticed by auto insurance companies.  These clients become more of a liability or risk.

  • When insurance companies begin to see various claims for the same policy, the customer will be noticed.

If you want to be noticed by your insurance company in a positive light, you should follow these suggestions:

  • Pay your bills on time.  Set up automatic withdraws or automatic bill pay in order to make sure your auto insurance bills are paid on a regular schedule.

  • Avoid having accidents or filing claims.  If you do have an accident, determine if it is worth filing a claim.  Sometimes minor accidents, less than $1000 in damages, should not be reported to the insurance company.  Pay the costs out of your own pocket so the insurance company does not notice you and raise your premium rates.

  • Slow down when you drive or at least drive the speed limit.  The limit is not a suggestion, but a law.  If you don’t drive faster than the limit, you won’t get a ticket and the insurance company will not need to raise your rates.

  • Talk with your insurance agent to find ways to reduce your rates or purchase additional lines of insurance, such as your house or life insurance.  Building a relationship with an agent can help the company view you positively.
