How to Become a Business Loan Broker

Business loan broker have the authority to offer and/or deny finance opportunities to businesses and their owners. These business loan brokers use specialized criteria to determine which businesses qualify for financing based on federal and state regulations. In order to make these judgment calls these professionals are properly trained.


  1. Complete at least a bachelor degree in finance and/or accounting at your preferred college or university. Ensure that you include several banking related courses within your degree program curriculum and selected electives.

  2. Apply for an internship at a local bank and/or finance company. Your academic advisor will provide you with information pertaining to internships available in your career field and aid you in the application process. These internship programs provide you with hands-on training and connections that are beneficial to your career upon graduation. 

  3. Prepare for and register for the state brokerage examination. Again your academic advisor will provide you with information pertaining to where and when registration for this examination is available. Ensure that you complete all registration forms and pay required fees within the proper time limit. 

  4. Attend your scheduled state brokerage examination. You should have received a card in the mail with a date, time and location for this examination. Ensure that you arrive on time and that you pass this test as it could take a year or long to become eligible for a retest. 

  5. Apply for job openings within your preferred bank or financial institution. You could locate job openings on the websites for this bank and others. Ensure that you fulfill all requirements before applying.
