How to Become a Corporate Fitness Trainer
A career as a corporate fitness trainer can be emotionally rewarding, as you help people achieve their health and fitness goals. It can also offer opportunities for full-time work and opportunities for those who would like to work as a trainer part time. As a corporate fitness trainer, you may work at an on site corporate fitness center, or at a local fitness center that has partnered with the company.
- Obtain fitness training certification and licensure. Check for any local regulations and take steps to meet those. In some areas, certification might not be legally required, but you may find that the corporate fitness center you are interested in working for won’t hire you without it.
- Draft a resume and cover letter. Although you should tailor both the resume and cover letter to the position you are applying for, having these made up ahead of time will allow you to respond quickly when opportunities arise.
- Order business cards. As corporate fitness trainer, you frequently have an opportunity to provide personal training, as well as corporate fitness training. Be ready for these opportunities by having business cards to hand out to prospect.
- Find employers. Check various job boards for advertised positions and apply to those you are interested in. Network with other fitness professionals to uncover positions that are not advertised. If you aren’t finding opportunities with established corporate fitness training programs, consider creating your own, and marketing the benefits of corporate fitness programs to local businesses.
- Continue your education. Keep up with fitness trends, and learn how to train additional exercise programs. As you learn, you will be able to offer your clients more programs, and you will become more valuable as a corporate fitness trainer.
