For example, you will have to work with other teachers, school administration, principal, children and parents. Other good attributes for teachers are excellent problem solving skills and leadership skills.

  2. Pursue a college education. A bachelor’s degree is required for having a career as a kindergarten teacher. You will need to major in education depending on the state. Some states will require potential teachers with a different major to take education classes as an elective. Most education majors will attend college for five years, and the fifth year is spent on gaining practical experience. Teachers should think about pursuing a master’s degree because of it being a requirement by some states. A teaching certificate is required by public schools as well.

  3. Create a portfolio for potential employers. Employers are looking for employees with certain skills and experience. Organize a folder with samples of work experience such as graded papers, pictures of working with kids, recommendation letters, resume, conference flyers and any other paperwork that showcase your skills. You should have the portfolio on hand when visiting job fairs and interviews.

  4. Search for a job. Decide on a school district and find out the process for applying for a job with the school. A good starting point is contacting the human resource office to find out how to apply for a job as a kindergarten teacher. Other options for finding jobs are local job fairs and online websites. Virtual job fairs are another opportunity and a trend that’s becoming popular with employers. If you are having problems finding a job then you can apply to be a substitute teacher.
