How to Become a Pharmacist
According to the United States Department of Labor the average yearly income for a starting pharmacist is $80,000. Although the required educational background requires more time than others, this is a high demand profession with excellent benefits. As your experience level increases so does your salary.
How to Become a Pharmacist:
Step 1: Complete all required pre-pharmacy coursework. Your best course of action is to complete a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Although not all pharmacy schools require such a high degree, this program will benefit you in the end and boost your starting salary.
Step 2: Complete and pass the Pharmacy College Admissions Test. Information for this exam is available at your local college or university.
Step 3: Fill out and submit an application for pharmacy school. This package should include your official transcripts and test scores. You should also decide which program is best suited for you. Your two options are the Doctor of Pharmacy and the Non-Traditional PharmD program. Your local college and/or university have extensive information for both programs.
Step 4: Apply for an internship while attending pharmacy school. During this program you will gain experience needed to enter the field. You also increase your odds of immediate employment upon graduation.
Step 5: Schedule and complete the licensing exam.
Step 6: Apply for pharmacist positions, if necessary. Job openings are posted in local newspapers and with employment agencies.
