How to Become a Weapons Engineer

If you are the type of person who is very interested in weapons, pursuing a career as a weapons engineer would be great for you.  A weapons engineer focuses on the technical aspects and implementations of warfare machines and tools.  There are different types of engineers related to the field.  This means there are several avenues to become a weapons engineer.

Mechanical engineers design, develop, manufacture, and research engines, machines, and other devices.  An aerospace engineer designs missiles and aircraft.  Nuclear engineers are responsible for resources and tools that have radioactive materials.  A marine engineer and naval architect design and build tankers, aircraft, boats, and ships.  However, you must take the right steps in order to become an engineer in one of these fields.

  1. Enroll in high school classes involving mathematics and science.  Do as well as you can because admissions criteria for undergraduate engineering schools require a good background in those fields. Courses like geometry, algebra, trigonometry, and calculus are the key math classes to take.  The key science courses include physics, biology, and chemistry.

  2. Go to a college that’s accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.  Graduate with a four-year degree in engineering.  The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that engineers who enter the field usually have a bachelor’s degree in engineering.  Some positions may require a graduate degree as well.

  3. Do some research and find an accredited graduate school in business administration or engineering if you want to teach in the future.

  4. Register for and earn an official license.  If you plan to be an engineer who will give service straight to the public, it is essential that you get licensed.  In order to receive a license, you must have a degree from a program that is approved by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology.  You will also need at least four years of experience in the field as well as pass your state’s board exam.
