How to Bed-In Ceramic Brake Pads
Brake pads must be in good working condition in order for your vehicle brakes to work to its maximum performance. When old ceramic brake pads are worn you can replace them with brake pads, but you must then bed-in the pads once they are installed. When you bed-in ceramic brake pads this allows the stop of your vehicle to work as perfect as possible.
Materials Needed:
- Ceramic brake pads
- Rotors
- Remove the rotor from each will that you will be installing new ceramic brake pads in. Make sure to machine both the front and back surfaces of the rotors to prepare the surfaces for the new brake pads.
- Install the new brake pads right into the disc brake calipers. Assemble the rotor, brakes, and wheel onto the vehicle. To prevent irregularities in the performance of the brakes, maintain each wheel in the same manner when installing the rotors and brake pads. After the brake installation get into the vehicle so you can bed-in the brakes.
- Drive the vehicle down a road that has little to no traffic. Increase the speed to 35 mph then use moderate foot pressure on the brake to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. Accelerate the vehicle again to 35 mph after you stop, and then repeat this process 10 times. Make sure that you accelerate and stop evenly each time.
- Increase the vehicle's speed to 45 mph and stop the vehicle forcefully three times. Again make sure to do this evenly and bring the vehicle to a complete stop before you accelerate. To avoid skidding, when you bed-in ceramic brakes control how much pressure you apply to the brake pedal.
- Drive the vehicle back home and allow at least 15 minutes for the brake pads and rotors to cool. Your vehicle is now set for you to use the brake system normally.
