How to Bid for Commercial Cleaning Jobs

Those who own cleaning businesses know that, while residential cleaning jobs are nice, the most money is made on commercial jobs. Although landing a commercial job can be a lot of work, the financial reward is well worth the trouble.

  1. Making a successful contact with a business is imperative before you can start the bidding process. This means that you will need to call or visit businesses until you get someone who is interested in your services. As you are searching, do not be discouraged. It may take fifty negative contacts before you you have a positive one.

  2. Talk to the manager or owner of the business once you have found someone who is interested. Sit down with them and ask them what their needs are for their building. Find out how many rooms you will be cleaning and what types of cleaning jobs you will be doing. Ask the manager if they have received cleaning bids from any other companies. If they have, keep this in mind as you prepare your bid.

  3. Return to your office and prepare your bid. First, decide how many hours it will take you to complete the job and how much your labor will cost. Labor of $20 an hour or more is common. Also, consider whether you will need others to help you complete the job. You will have to work in the cost of their labor as well. You will also need to factor in the cost of the cleaning supplies that you will use and any special cleaning machines that will be used.

  4. Prepare a bid by using a word processing program on your computer. Microsoft Online has Word templates available to help you with this task. Fill in your company information and the bid amount. Then print the bid on a clean sheet of white paper.

  5. Deliver your bid to the company and await their response. If you have not heard from them in a week, follow up with a phone call.
