How to Block Framing
Things you will need:
- Lumber
- All-purpose screws
- Cordless drill
- Framing nails
- Hammer
- Builders saw
- Pencil
- Measuring tape
- Soffits
- Measure the area between the studs. Measure from the start of the wall out to the bottom sole plate.
Saw the lumber for your blocking. Make sure that the top and bottom plates are the same length. It should be noted that if you are framing a basement, you will need to check the leveling for each stud because basements tend to have uneven leveling throughout.
Install interior soffits. This will help to support the weight of the structural foundation.
Take measurements of the fixtures that you plan to have mounted. If you are measuring for a television that you plan to mount, you need to add the brackets into your measurements. If you are installing cabinets or other fixtures, then use exact measurements. Use a pencil to mark the measurements that you came up with on the studs.
Attach the blocking securely in the wall. Make sure that the middle of the blocking is lined up with the same height that you measured for the item that you are mounting. The blocking should be adjusted so that it corresponds with the front of the wall. If the broadest portion of the blocking faces the room, then this was done correctly.
