How to Build Aluminum Window Screens
A lot of people like to open their windows when the weather is nice to feel fresh air from the outdoors. You need to install screens in the windows so bugs and debris don't come inside your house. Building and installing aluminum screens can certainly be done as a weekend project.
Things You'll Need:
- Tape Measure
- Pencil
- Paper
- Tin Snips
- Screwdriver
- Screws
- Drill
- Hacksaw
- Marker
- Measure the dimensions of your window openings. Make sure you write down the dimensions of all the windows you want to install screens in. These dimensions will be used to purchase the aluminum screens.
- Purchase rolls of aluminum screens at a local home improvement store. Take the dimensions you wrote down so you can show them to a representative at the store. These representatives will be able to help you purchase enough aluminum screening and all other supplies you need.
- Cut each screen you need with tin snips or a hacksaw. Make sure you mark the spots where you need to cut the screens before you cut. This process will be the toughest part because it will give your muscles a workout. Have someone help you do the cutting or take a couple breaks to save your energy.
- Attach the screens with a screwdriver or drill. You'll probably have to use a drill because it could be tough to screw them in by hand. Make sure you don't use a high setting on the drill because it could easily break wood or plastic frames. Using a low to medium setting will eventually drill the screws in efficiently.
