How to Build Cheap Patio Sets
Sometimes, with the high cost to furnish your home's interior, you want to find a way to save costs elsewhere. One way you can do this is by building your own patio sets. You can build cheap patio sets yourself, using presently owned or extremely cheap items.
- Look for giant wire spools found on old construction sites. These spools are big enough to act as a patio table, and with a little work can actually look very appealing. If you are having trouble finding one, go to construction sites currently in progress and speak to a foreman. Ask them if they have any or if they would mind holding one for you if they get one. Many times they won't mind because it saves them the trouble of hauling it off.
- Paint or treat the spool with wood varnish. This will give the wire spool a more pleasant look. This item not only will be cheap or free, but looks very unique and inviting as a patio furnishing.
- Check local trash dumps. You might be surprised what people will throw away. Sometimes people get new patio furniture when their old ones are still in decent shape. Instead of selling the set they will often throw the items away. This is another free method of getting patio furniture.
- Take the patio furniture you found at the dump and fix any damage that might be done to it. Many times patio furniture that is thrown away just needs a little elbow grease and it will be good as new. Clean it up and you have a perfectly good cheap patio set.
- Build a cheap patio set yourself. If you want the satisfaction of building the set yourself, but you are on a budget, go to a lumber yard and buy what they call “throw away wood.” This wood is perfectly healthy wood, but is excess wood from cuts they have made to make certain measurements. Most lumber yards will sell this wood extremely cheap because otherwise they will only throw it away.
- Search the Internet for wooden patio set plans. Find plans for building wooden patio sets and follow the instructions for building the set you like most. If you like some pieces of one set and some from another set, just simply mix and match them anyway you want.
