How to Use RV Salvage Parts

How to Build Computers From Salvage Parts at Home

Building computers from salvaged parts can save you lots of money.  You can salvage parts either from your old computers or from flea markets and thrift stores.  Instead of getting rid of old computers, you can salvage some parts towards making an even better home computer.

  1. Choose which parts to reuse and which parts to upgrade. The most popular parts to salvage from old computers include the hard drive, the exterior case and the DVD drive.  When people salvage old computer parts to build a new one, they use the old computers parts for those areas they do not really need to upgrade.  When moving to a new computer, most people will want to upgrade the motherboard, the CPU, the RAM and video card.  This is because these areas generally show rapid improvements in performance compared to the predecessors of yesteryear.  The hard drive often gets reused, because it still contains data that the user wants access to.  DVD drives do not change much over time and the exterior case of the old computer is quite usable as the foundation for the new PC.

  2. Use compressed air to clean the old computer parts. The old computer parts that you want to reuse are likely full of dust and other debris.  You can purchase a bottle of compressed air from any electronic store.  This will help to blow out any gunk that has gathered inside your various computer parts that you want to reuse.

  3. Purchase the new computer parts and assemble the new machine. Purchase the new parts you want to put into your upgraded pc.  Add them to your salvaged computer parts to create your upgraded machine.
