How to Build Creative Miniature Golf Courses

Creating a miniature golf course involves designing various holes and laying lumber for your course. By building your own course, you can play for as long as you want and anytime that you want. It also provides fun outdoor entertainment for your guests.

  1. Draw a sketch of your design for the course. Be inventive and include a variety of hills, jumps, twists, and 90-degree turns.

  2. Position your boundaries. Use two-by-fours as the boundaries for your course. Cinder blocks can be used for the corners so that the ball can stay in play.

  3. Determine the measurements for your course. Once you designate these measurements, cut the wood accordingly.

  4. Lay out the astro turf. Add 2 inches to each side of the dimensions for the overlap. The overlap will be hidden under the wood. Make sure the astro turf is laid out nice and taut.

  5. Put the two-by-fours down on the astro turf. Lay them along the outside of the designated holes. Apply wood glue to the lumber so that it bonds securely. Let the glue dry according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  6. Begin cutting out the holes for your course. Make sure to cut 90-degree holes and be creative. For each hole that you cut, you will need to dig a hole big enough for the golf balls to fall in. Use plastic from a soda bottle or a PVC pipe to line your holes to keep the ball from getting soiled.
