How to Build DVD Storage From Wood

If you love watching DVDs, but have no room to store them all, why not build a simple and inexpensive wooden DVD holder? The pattern is easy to make and requires no drilling. The DVD holder can be adjusted to fit the quantity and types of DVDs you will need to store.

Item Needed

  • Wooden Saw

  • Wood Glue

  • Hammer

  • Nails

  • Pencil

  • Measuring Tape

  • Ruler

  • Shelf Holders

  • 1 Inch Wood

  1. Cut the plywood with your saw into two 5-inch by 42-inch wooden pieces, one 6-inch by 44-inch wooden piece and two 9-inch by 8-inch wooden pieces. Lastly, cut six 5-inch by 5 inch wooden pieces. These will be used for the shelves.

  2. Place the 6x44 inch piece of wood on the floor. This is the back side of the storage unit. Glue the 5x42 inch wooden pieces. These will be the sides of the unit. Place nails into the wood to increase the sturdiness of the unit.

  3. Set the 9x8 inch piece of wood at the bottom and glue in place. If you choose, you can place nails into the wood for added stretch. Center the 5x5 inch wooden pieces over the wood you just finished and glue in place.

  4. Add the last piece of 5x5 piece of wood to make the top of the unit and glue down. Your tower case is now complete.

  5. Stand the wooden unit up and place two lines on the front and back panels. All lines should be parallel to each other. Place six dots on the lines making sure they are six inches apart.

  6. Place the shelf holders into the DVD unit. You can now place your DVD collection into your new wooden handmade unit.
