How to Build Pet Kennels
Building a dog kennel makes caring for it much more convenient, particularly if you are going to be away from home for many hours each day. When it comes to a dog kennel, the dog is able to go to the bathroom when needed, get some air, and love being outside without direct supervision.
Supplies:
- 4 treated 6-foot corner posts
- 5 steel posts
- Sledgehammer
- Shovel
- 50 lb. bag of dry cement
- Roll of 14-gauge wire
- Welded wire fence (30 x 4 feet)
- Staple gun and staples
- Take measurements for the area of the dog kennel and mark where the corner posts have to go.
- Dig out four holes that are two feet deep for the corner posts and put the treated posts in the holes. Stake two steel posts into the ground. Make sure they are evenly spaced in between the two corner posts on the 10-foot sides of the kennel.
- Apply 1/4 of the bag of dry cement in each hole around the corner post and fill up the rest of each hole with dirt. Tap the dirt in place with the handle of a shovel.
- Staple the welded wire fence onto the first corner posts on two sides again. Pull in a tight manner to the next corner post 10 feet away and staple it on two sides. Do this at each corner post, making sure not to staple the fence to the corner post where you began.
- Take the 14-guage wire and wrap it around the steel posts and the welded wire fence to attach the fence to the posts. On the end where the door is, there is five feet of fence hanging loose. Wire up the loose end of the section to the remaining steel post. Wrap up two extra pieces of wire around the steel post to attach it to the corner one.
- Put water on the corner posts with a hose or buckets of water. Do this after finishing the fence installation attaching the posts. The concrete starts to harden at this point.
