How to Build Privacy Fences
When building a privacy fence, the first thing to consider is the height that you will go for. Do not build your fence too high, as this will just be a waste of cash. Alternatively, do not build a low fence that the neighbors can still see inside your yard.
- Find out the number of posts that you will require. You can do this by dividing the accumulative length of the fence by eight. For the corners you can add 4 more posts.
- Calculate the fence perimeter by multiplying it by 8. This will help you to know the number of 6x8 panel boards that will be needed.
- Make a hole 2 feet in diameter on all the 4 corners. It should be 7.5 feet between the corners and where the posts will be placed.
- Take the measurements between the posts. Using a miter saw, cut 2x4 boards so that they fit in the sections in between the posts of the fence.
- Build a frame using the 4 boards that you got from step 4 by placing the boards in a parallel way to each other. Using a hammer and nails, assemble the frames. The boards should meet at the corners. Repeat this process for all the fence post pairs.
- Cover the frames with lattice boards that you cut to size using the miter saw. Then lattice boards will be attached to the frames using 2 inch nails.
- Have the fence panels assembled in the fence post spaces. You should have an assistant who will help in making sure that the panels are straight while you fix them up to the post using 4 inch nails that will penetrate the frames and the posts.
- Paint the exterior wood. Take a paint brush and paint the exterior wood so as to protect it from water damage.
