How to Build RC Model Helicopters
Many owners enjoy flying their RC helicopters. Building an RC helicopter takes a great deal of patience due to its lengthy process. They vary in complexity depending on the kit but the basic building instructions are the same no matter which model you purchase.
- Choose the type of kit you want. Decide between an electric and gas powered motor. If you are a novice then you will may prefer the electric model as it is simpler to build and control. If you are interested in a more realistic looking helicopter then choose the gas powered model.
- Clear a workspace for your project. Use a large table or work bench as there are many intricate pieces included with the kit. You need adequate work space for the instructions, pieces and additional supplies that you need for assembly.
- Assemble the main frame of your helicopter. This consists of the main body bar and the cross bar with a series of nuts and bolts. Make sure that all parts are securely fastened and that the nuts and bolts are firmly in place and screwed tightly.
- Place the engine on the main body bar. Make sure that the gear and engine fit securely. They should fit tightly yet still move against each other smoothly.
- Attach the horizontal fin on toward the back of the body bar.Run the belt drive from the engine to the rotor, and make sure that the belt moves freely.
- Attach the battery to the helicopter. If you purchased a gas powered kit then attach the fuel tank and muffler.
- Paint your canopy. After the paint has dried, use a clear coat for added protection. Once the clear coat has dried, attach the canopy to the helicopter.
