How to Build a Child Swing
A swing can provide hours of outdoor fun for your kids. Having a swing in your backyard is convenient and great entertainment for young children. You can purchase a swing, but you will get much more satisfaction if you build it yourself.
Supplies
- Two 2x6x12 foot boards
- One 2x6x8 board
- Four 4x4x8 foot posts.
- Wood screws
- A drill
- A screwdriver
- A socket wrench
- A saw
- Choose a type of wood that can hold up to being exposed to outdoor elements year round. Redwood and green treated are two types of wood that will work well for your project.
- Stack the two 2x6x12 boards on a flat surface. Drill three or four holes into the boards every 32 inches and use wood screws to screw them together. This will serve as the top beam.
- Attach post connectors on either end of the beam. Take your pieces to the location you will be putting the swing so you will not have to move it once it’s completed. Set the posts next to the beam. Start on one side, and mark holes and drill them into the post.
- Attach the front leg and then the back leg. Do the same for the other side. The swing set should now be able to stand up.
- Brace the legs. Cut a 2x6x8 in half. Make sure that your swing set is standing straight and not wobbling and attach the boards horizontally between the posts.
- Attach your swings. You can purchase swings from a store or you can build your own. You can use a chain and a small wood board for a simple swing. You can also purchase rubber to use as a bendable seat.
