How to Build a Concrete Outdoor Fire pit

Outdoor fire pits provide a nice look to your house and make it fun for social events. Many people like sitting around a fire during the fall. Don't waste your time and money by hiring a professional to install a fire pit.

Things You'll Need:

  • Tape Measure

  • Pencil

  • Paper

  • Decorative Bricks

  • Shovel

  • Level

  • Lava Rock

  1. Find a spot on your property that's safe to have a fire pit. You want the pit to be on level ground and not around anything that could easily catch fire. Make sure the pit is far enough away from your house so the smoke doesn't easily blow in from the wind.

  2. Write down the dimensions you want the pit to look like.

  3. Take your dimensions to a local home improvement store to buy all your supplies. Most people use decorative bricks to build the pit. You should be able to look at many types and colors and bricks at the store. You'll probably need to order the stones and have them delivered to your house.

  4. Dig the perimeter of your pit with a shovel. You shouldn't need to dig very deep, just enough to scrape the grass off and a little dirt.

  5. Stack your bricks around the perimeter. Use a level to make sure they're straight.

  6. Fill the middle of your pit with a layer of lava rock. This will help start the fires and prevent the ground from burning.

  7. Add any extra features you want like a wood rack or special chairs.
