How to Build a Corner Computer Desk
Making a corner desk helps you create a workspace in an otherwise unused area. A corner desk helps you carve out an efficient workspace without using a lot of floor space. This corner desk plan offers a deep tabletop for a computer or other work equipment. You can make a custom corner desk fit your specific needs and space. Basic carpentry skills and tools make this a do-it-yourself project.
Items needed
- Measuring tape
- Level
- Skill saw
- Screws
- Screw driver
- Protective eye glasses
- MDF for top
- Lumber
- Table legs
Instructions
- Measure the area for the corner desk to fit. Allow plenty of room to work. Measure the space to accommodate a computer monitor and keyboard or a laptop. If possible, place the computer desk near electrical outlets and Internet connections.
- Mark the edges of the desk top on the wall and write down the measurement. Make a basic rectangle frame from one-by-four inch boards. Cut two boards the desired length of the desk. Cut two more pieces of wood for the sides. Attach the side pieces at a 90-degree angle to the long pieces with screws. Attach the two long pieces together to form a 90-degree angle at the back.
- Stabilize the frame with corner braces. Cut the ends of the one-by-four inch brace boards at a 45-degree angle. Attach a brace to each corner with wood glue and screws. Use a level to ensure an even work surface.
- Attach pre-made legs to the frame. Use four table legs, available at hardware stores, to give a decorative look to your computer desk. A variety of styles are available to complement your décor.
- Create a tabletop out of a ¾-inch thick sheet of MDF. Use a piece of cardboard to draw a template of the corner area. Trace the template onto the MDF sheet with a marker and straight edge. Place the MDF sheet on two saw horses and cut the shape out with a skill saw.
- Attach the tabletop to the frame. Drill pilot holes in the MDF and attach it to the frame with 2-inch screws. Attach along the frame and corner braces. Fill screw holes with wood filler and sand smooth. Paint or stain the wood to finish the project.
