How to Build a Dog Food Storage Bin

When a dog finds their food, they will often times try to rip through the bag so that they can have their fill, or eat until they get sick. Building a dog food storage bin can help prevent your dog from getting into the dog food so that you don't end up unnecessarily buying food all the time.

  1. Purchase four pieces of pine board that all measure twenty inches by fifteen inches. You also need two pieces of pine board that measure eighteen inches by eighteen inches. These will be for the top and bottom of the dog food storage bin.

  2. Using a metal hinge piece, nail two of the boards together. Make sure that the boards are securely together. If you would like some added strength, glue the pieces of pine board together before you nail the boards together. Repeat this until all four of the boards are securely together and a square has been completed.

  3. Place one of the eighteen by eighteen inch boards on the ground. Make sure that surface is flat so that you won't have dog food falling out of the bin. Using strong wood glue, such as Guerilla Glue, glue down the four sides of the pine board to the bottom board on the ground. Place pressure on the boards for two minutes to ensure a strong hold with the glue.

  4. Attach two hinges to the inside of the top portion of the dog food storage bin. Screw them in tightly so that they do not come apart. Attach the last eighteen by eighteen inch pine board to the other end of the hinges. This will give you a simple lift top so that you can easily get the dog food out of the storage bin. If you are concerned about your dog lifting the lid to the food storage bin, add a lock to the bin so that your dog cannot get inside.
