How to Build a Dog Kennel
Your dogs will enjoy having a kennel because it will allow them to run around outside and have a place to sleep. You can build your own kennel to save money and make it your own unique design. This project could take a little while, but won't be very difficult.
Things You'll Need:
- Pencil
- Paper
- Tape Measure
- Building Materials
- Check with your local zoning commissioner about how big you're allowed to make the kennel. Most rural areas are a lot more lenient than suburban areas. It shouldn't take to long for them to let you know how big you're allowed to build the kennel. Make sure you provide them an accurate diagram of your kennel design.
- Take your diagram to a lumberyard, hardware store and home improvement store to purchase materials. There should be employee’s at all three stores who can help you purchase all your materials. Make sure you purchase quality supplies so the kennel will be sturdy and last a long time.
- Build the kennel first. Make sure the kennel has a little shade around it so it doesn't get to hot during the summer. Also try building the kennel on high ground so water doesn’t lie around the foundation.
- Build your fence last, around the kennel. Make sure you build it to the exact dimensions you proposed to the zoning commissioner. Chances are the commissioner will monitor your progress and make sure you're building it to the right dimensions. Include a gate so you can enter the kennel to feed and play with the dogs.
