How to Build a Kennel for a Cattery

Cats are known for their affinity for walking around and exploring all hours of day and night. A cattery is a business that allows cat owners to board their animals when they are away from home. Unfortunately, keeping a cat contained is difficult, so building a kennel for a cat is a complicated feat.

Items Needed:

  • Wooden posts: 2-inches by 2-inches
    in diameter, 2-feet high

  • Cement mix

  • Waterproof

  • Chicken Wire

  • Wire Cutters

  • Pliers

  • Tape Measure

  • Hinge and hinge parts

  • Bricks or large stones

  • Wood Screws

  • Screw Gun

  • Gate Latch

  1. Decide where the cat kennel will
be placed. Once you have chosen an area, measure it and make sure
that your supplies cover the amount of area that is needed.

  2. Dig four corner post holes at the
corners of the measured areas. Dig each post hole approximately one
foot down into the ground. Dig two more post holes where the cat
    kennel's gate will sit.

  3. Mix cement according to the
directions on the bag. Pour wet cement into each hole and place the
wooden post into each hole. Allow the pole to dry within the cement.

  4. Wrap chicken wire around the
posts. Start at one of the gate posts and wrap it around all the
posts until arriving at the second post of the cat kennel door.
Secure the chicken wire by twisting wire ties around the corner
posts and gate posts. You will need to use pliers to secure the
    ties well.

  5. Lay bricks or large stones on the
bottom of the chicken wire. This will keep the cat from crawling
    under the wire.

  6. Screw two hinge assemblies to one
of the cat kennel gate posts. Screw the hinges onto the gate. Find
the same spot on the cat kennel gate and attach the other part of
the hinge to it. Use wood screws to hold hinges and hinge assemblies
in place. Slide the gate onto the gatepost, attaching hinges to the
    hinge assemblies.

  7. Screw a latch onto the cat
kennel's gate with a matching late on the kennel gate post.
