How to Build a Miniature Golf Course
Many first dates start right on the miniature golf course. Instead of shelling out money for each visit to a miniature golf game, you can build your own course. Once you have created your own golf course, you can invite friends and family over and play to your heart’s content.
Some careful planning can ensure that your course is fun for all.
- Measure out the available sections of your yard so that you can properly formulate a plan. It is best to follow the old adage – measure twice, cut twice as you complete this portion.
- Plan out your course prior to beginning any actual construction work. Spending additional time at the drawing board will prevent scenarios where you run out of space for holes, and will allow for proper balance of easy and more difficult holes throughout the course.
- Use dirt in order to create natural hills and valleys prior to laying the turf down for your course. Likewise, use fill dirt to smooth out portions of the greens.
- Compact the dirt using a tamp. Skipping this step will cause dirt to settle as the course is used by players.
- Dig a six-inch deep hole for your course holes. Use a piece of PVC and insert it into the ground. Ensure that the top is level with the ground.
- Lay the turf down across the shaped dirt. Once the turf is down, cut a hole in the position of the PVC pipe.
- Create walls around each hold in the course using four by four pieces of lumber. This will keep golf balls from straying off course.
- Using two by four pieces of lumber, construct obstacles for your holes. Many courses use a narrow bridge or a tunnel, making it more difficult for players to get a straight shot to the hole.
- Consider using natural objects such as rocks, in order to create obstacles for your holes.
- Consider unused household items to create additional obstacles.
