How to Build a Plant Nursery

Plant nurseries are generally a product of the locale in which the plants are grown. Many nurseries choose plants that grow best within the region that their business is located.  Many nurseries supply garden centers within a specific region. Others sell to anyone in the states, and with special permits it is possible to sell highly specialized plants internationally.

  • Invest in viable land that will grow the variety of plants you wish to offer.  Growing entirely indoors can carry excessive expenses and is simply not accessible on a large scale for most beginners.

  • The greenhouses that you may recognize have indoor temperature and climate controlled greenhouses to germinate the seeds and grow the plants from seed.

  • Growing outdoors is sometimes helpful when you sell a product, like shrubs, that need to be started indoors but grow for many months or years in order to be sold to the consumer.

  • House plant producers generally specialize in a particular type, style or strain of plants so that they can produce a high quality and uniform product.

  • There is room to grow for plant producing nurseries because this business is something that can be done with minimal space.

  • Many restaurants buy fresh herbs from local companies that can produce fresh ingredients for their recipes all year round.

  • Plants can be container grown to maximize tight quarters.  Even shrubs and trees are being grown in large buckets and containers so that the saplings and young trees do not have to be dug up.

  • Building a greenhouse from scratch requires the framework with which to construct a greenhouse with glass, or you can simply purchase already made structures.
