How to Build a Plasma Television Stand
Your TV is oftentimes the centerpiece of your living room, game room or family room. On the contrary, you might wish to hide the device. Either way, you can build a plasma television stand to accommodate your particular needs and your room's decor.
Items Needed:
- Wood or television stand kit
- Tools
- Wood glue
- Plasma television
- Circular saw
- Determine how many shelves you need, by counting the number of electronic devices you have to connect to your television. For each VCR, DVD player or other similar device, you will need one shelf. Take into consideration if you have CDs, DVDs or other discs that you need to place on the stand. Choose whether you want a cabinet like design that hides your television when it is not in use.
- Decide whether you are willing to purchase wood and create the entire stand from scratch. Also, factor in your particular woodworking skills. A project like this should only be completed from scratch if you have some carpentry skills; if not, it could be a disaster.
- Write down the measurements of your television. If you are building from scratch, you must figure out all the dimensions, so you know how much wood to purchase. Do not forget to take into consideration the amount of weight the stand must hold.
- Purchase the kit or the wood.
- Follow the instructions that came along with the kit to finish the project. Make sure you follow the steps carefully to avoid any costly mistakes. Build your television from scratch using wood, wood glue and tools.
- Measure out the wood you need for the project. Cut each piece based on the measurements you wrote down earlier.
- Assemble the bottom of the television stand first.
- Add wheels to the bottom of the stand, if you plan to move it frequently. Do it now, so there is not tons of weight on it or an awkward shape you have to flip over.
- Connect the sides to the stand using the wood glue and some nails. About two or three nails on each of the ends of the piece of wood is plenty. Clamp the sides together, if necessary and allow it to dry.
- Attach the top of the stand using the same method. Place the first shelf underneath where the plasma TV will be located. Build any drawers or additional shelves you planned to include in your design. Remember, if you are adding a drawer, you must have a track for it to run on. This must be screwed onto where the drawer will slide.
